We owe most of the information herein given about Pleasant Williams and his children and records to William Otis Thompson, Jr., great-grandson of Middleton M. Williams, and to Don Williams, descendant of George J. Williams and to Don's daughter Stephanie Williams. I did the preliminary research on Middleton M. Williams and his descendants, and on George J. Williams and Lucy Hughes. I thank them with all my heart.

2. MIDDLETON MIX2 WILLIAMS (PLEASANT1) was born March 06, 1829 in Madison Co., Ga, and died April 28, 1894 in Walton Co. Ga. He married (1) LIDA J. WILLIAMS on 3 August 1854 in Clarke Co. Ga. Nothing is known about her, and no children are known from this marriage. He married (2)CYNTHIA ADAZOE HUGHES March 14, 1867 in Walton Co. Ga., daughter of WILLIAM HUGHES and MINERVA MOORE. It was Cynthia’s second marriage. See this web site for the Hughes family . http://oursouthernancestors.com/hughes-001.html. See photos below.
Cynthia was born May 29, 1840, Walton County, and married (1) REUBEN THOMAS BULLOCK of Walton County, on 15 December 1859. Reuben Thomas Bullock was the son of William B. Bullock and Nancy Edwards.
Reuben Thomas Bullock was born about 1839 and died of chronic diarrhea, New Orleans, Louisiana, 21 July 1863, while serving in Co. G, 42nd Regt. Ga. Vol. Inf. He enlisted 4 March 1862 in Walton County, and was captured at Vicksburg, 4 July 1863 [Wayfarers:649].
Cynthia and Reuben had one child, JOHN MERRIMAN BULLOCK [b. August 9, 1861; d. Nov. 15, 1942. Pioneer, West Carroll, LA] who married MARY JANE WILLIAMS, 12 September 1883 [no relation I know of], in Ruston, Lincoln,Louisiana, and they raised a large family. Mary Jane was the daughter of Mary Jane Houston and Henery Williams, Bienville Parish, LA.
Both George and Middleton Williams were carpenters and built houses in Winder, Monroe, Hall County, Gwinnett County, and other places in Georgia, wherever they were needed. Consequently, they often moved or lived with someone in the county in which they were working. His grandchildren told me that Middleton built the first house in Winder, Ga.
Middleton is found in the August, 1850 Clarke Co. Ga. census living with Elizabeth Daughtery, age 55, who appears to be a widow with a daughter, Cynthia, age 20, and two sons, Green, age 21, and LaFayette, age18. It is thought Elizabeth was the widow of Charles Daughtery of Athens. Nothing more is know about this family to me.
Middleton Williams is also found in the October 12, 1850 Greene Co. Ga. census living with the Stewart Anderson family, along with three other men, all listed as carpenters. Middleton has not been found in any 1860 Georgia census. Middleton was found in the 1870, Clincham District, Hall Co. Ga. census, with his wife, Cynthia and the children, and in the 1880 Cut-off District of Walton County, Ga. He never moved again after finally settling in Walton Co. Ga. on his farm.
Service records in the Civil War Department of the Ga. Archives show that Middleton M. Williams was a sergeant in Co. H, 43rd Regt. Ga. Vol. Inf. He enlisted 4 March 1862 at Jefferson, Jackson County, Georgia, for a period of three years or the war, and started with the rank of 4th Sgt., moving up to 3rd Sgt. by 1864. On a receipt roll for pay in 1862, he was listed as a mechanic. He participated in the Battle of Vicksburg, was captured there 4 July 1863, and paroled 6 July 1863, after signing the Oath of Allegiance to the United States, according to the terms of capitulation. He again enlisted on 18 February 1864 at Dalton, Georgia, and was captured near Atlanta on 13 August 1864. He appears on a prisoners of war roll, 30 August 1864 at Nashville, Tennessee. He was received at the military prison at Louisville, Kentucky on 1 September 1864. The next day he was sent to Camp Chase prison in Ohio. There his name appears on a roll of prisoners of war Who applied for the Oath of Allegiance; "deserted" in the remarks column. His signature appears to an Oath of Allegiance to the United States on 15 May 1865 at Camp Chase, Ohio, on which date he was released from prison. His place of residence on that date was given as Clarke County, Georgia. His physical description was given as florid complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, and five feet 8 inches tall.
Middleton is buried in a family cemetery in the woods now, but formerly on the land where he farmed in Walton County, Ga. He died 28 April 1894, Walton County, Georgia. Cynthia died November 11, 1907 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Ga. near her son, William J. Williams, and other family. After Middleton's death, she lived with William Joseph Williams in Gwinnett County, Ga. He was always called "Joe."
An interesting tombstone was found at the site of Middleton's grave in the woods . It is that of Joshua Brantley, a pioneer citizen of Walton County. Deeds in Walton County were searched trying to find how Middleton obtained the land he farmed on, but no deeds were found. Joshua Brantley being buried there probably means that he was an owner of this same land at the time he died. He was a prominent citizen, having the District of Brantley's named after him. The deeds of Joshua Brantley need to be researched which was not done yet. Joshua did win land in the 1820 Land Lottery in Walton Co., District 3, Land Lot #89. As a Soldier (no war given), Joshua Brantley of 250th District[Brantley's or Tanner's] of Walton County won land in Carroll Co. Ga. in the 1827 Land Lottery, and he also won land in the 1832 Gold Lottery. He was in the 1820-1850 censuses of Walton County.
Cynthia Williams owned a Bible at the time of her death in 1907, in which she had entered the children's names and their births, deaths, and marriages. I copied the names, dates, and marriages from the original Bible, in possession of the Bush Hamilton family [a granddaughter] now.
